Show Information
Closing date: Sat 2nd October 2021 or earlier if full.
This competition is ideal for first-time trec competitors. The competition gives you the chance to ride around farmland and small amount of country lanes. Classes for individuals and pairs. Pairs do the obstacles and control of paces separately but go out on the orienteering phase together.

The POR (Orienteering) – ALL COMPETITORS to be given a pre-marked route map.
Phases for all classes:

Phase 1. PTV - Obstacles.
A timed course involving 10 obstacles aimed to simulate what you might meet on a hack. Some may take place dismounted. You can decline to do an obstacle without being eliminated but you must stop and tell the judge of that obstacle. No mounted jumping – (body protector optional)

Phase 2. Control of Paces.
Horse required to canter as slowly as possible along a measured track (up to 150m in length) then walk back as fast as possible along the same distance. Points given on a sliding scale. Maximum of 30 points for each. A break of pace results in a zero score for that pace.

Phase 3. POR ( Mounted Orienteering).
An optimum speed and orienteering course marked out of 240 points, these may be lost for any full minute under or over the optimum time or for any error of course. The distance will be no more than 10k maximum. Competitors will be given a pre-marked map to follow. There may also be tickets or markers along the route which must be noted down, these show you are riding correct route. In pairs classes this section is ridden as a pair. If a rider / pair returns to the venue without having passed through the finish checkpoint (i.e. still in possession of their record card), they must report to the secretary’s or an official immediately.

The route will be a mixture of farmland, bridleways, and small amount of roadwork. PLEASE TAKE CARE RIDING ON FARMLAND AS CROPS MAYBE GROWING OR LIVESTOCK GRAZING.
