Starting Times:
Start times available on Friday on the Wittering Academy Riding Club website and will be emailed to you. If you do not have internet access, please phone for times on Friday between 8pm and 9pm only on 01406 380949.
The course will be open for walking before the start of the first class and again at intervals throughout the day when the course is changed, exact times dependent on entries and will be published with the start times. Horses must be 2 years or older. Open to combinations that have not been placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any In-hand Winter Trec competition prior to October 2016. The MA phase will consist of walk and trot along a 25m corridor followed by 10 obstacles. Any jumped obstacles will be 50cm or less. Saddles are optional and horses can be led in a bridle or headcollar. Hard hats must be worn and a schooling whip may be carried.

Entries must be received by Wednesday and will be limited – please enter early! (If full, a waiting list will be kept) There are no entries on the day.

The competition will consist of the MA (control of paces) and the PTV (obstacle) phases undertaken in a large outdoor arena. There will be a maximum of two small jumps in each class which can be omitted without being eliminated for those who prefer not to jump. In the event of adverse weather conditions please phone/email on the Saturday evening (3rd Dec) by 9pm, when a decision will be made.

How do I take part?
The competition is open to all. Complete the entry form and return with your cheque before the closing date or enter online using the quick link on the Wittering Academy RC website. There are no entries on the day. You will be given a start time – turn up in good time so that you have a chance to study the course and check details of how to tackle each obstacle. . You don’t have to be a member of a riding club, BHS or TRECGB to take part, but you must have 3rd party liability insurance and may be asked for evidence of this when you collect your number. (Current BHS/Affiliated Riding Club members are insured through the BHS.)

What do we wear?
Safe and comfortable riding gear (there is no requirement for show jackets or plaiting up the horse), and your horse or pony’s usual tack will be fine. Please read the rules

You can enter using our Secure Online Entry System. Payment is secure and it goes directly to Wittering Academy.
You will receive an email confirmation of your entry and payment.

Pairs class: Wittering Academy RC members £6/rider, Non-members £8/rider
All other classes:
£12 per class for Wittering Academy RC members
£15 per class for non-members
(N.B. A horse or pony can only take part once in each class.)

Prize Information
How are the placings decided?
The winner of each class will be the rider or pair with the highest combined score from the PTV and the Walk/Canter phases. In the event of equality, the highest score from the PTV will take precedence. Rosettes will be presented up to 6th place in each class.

Special Classes
The Winter League will be run differently this year and will be for Wittering Academy Riding Club Members only. Your best three scores will count over the Winter (10 points for a win, 9 for 2nd and so on) for all classes except Pairs and Topscore. If there is an equality of points, the actual scores achieved will be taken into account. Winners will be given a championship rosette and voucher. Juniors will have their own league with their best three scores to count (regardless of class – Pairs and Topscore will be excluded)

Withdrawals/Refunds
Refunds for withdrawals after the closing date will be entirely at the discretion of the organisers.

Rules as per the current TREC GB Rulebook (now available on the TREC GB website), and general rules detailed below and elsewhere in this schedule. 1. Competition open to all horses and ponies providing that they are a minimum of four years old in 2016 (i.e. a horse born in 2012 may compete in TREC in 2016) except in the in-hand class which is open to any horse/pony over two years old. 2. Riders any age, juniors may ride horses and seniors may ride ponies. 3. No rider will be permitted to start any phase of the competition unless wearing a hard hat, which meets a standard currently recommended by the BHS and BRC. Please note, the EN1384 and BSEN 1384 have been removed from the approved list. Riders are advised not to purchase hats that comply with this standard only. As there are no fixed obstacles, the wearing of body protectors is not compulsory. 5. Riders must wear suitable riding footwear. 6. Standing Martingales and other fixed reins are forbidden unless agreed by the organisers (e.g. in the case of ‘grass reins’ for small ponies).. If a running martingale is used, the horse must be led from a headcollar and leadrope for led PTV obstacles. 7. Whips must not exceed 75cms except in the In-hand class. Spurs, if worn, must be rounded and not exceed 3.5cms in length and pointed downwards. 8. The decisions of the official and the Judges are final and must be complied with at all times. Competitors may be eliminated from the competition for any of the following reasons: • Excessive use of the whip • Abusive language • Dangerous riding • Uncorrected error of course on PTV (including not telling a judge you are leaving out an obstacle.)
