I’ve just taken over as a managing partner at Chesfield Manor
Stables, Graveley in Hertfordshire. I started riding at 4 at a local
riding establishment - this year I completed my first CCI** with
Bouncer at Blair Athol where I came 14th with a double clear and to
top it off won the prize for moving up the most places after dressage.
I have now qualified CIC*** and I’m aiming for Blenheim 8/9 Year
olds next year.
My other young horse, Doug, started his career this year and is
now qualified CCI*.
I hope you enjoy reading my diary and following my two young
horses as they fulfil their eventing careers!

Hi all well I have loads to tell you, sorry for being very boring and not writing to you I haven't sat done since my last blog literally.
So where do I start, well I suppose I should talk about the season to date, but firstly I now have Twitter so follow me on @kirstycs there are lots of amusing statuses.
We have been up and down the country first stop Great witchingham in Norfolk where we had all 3 and everyone jumped well and did reasonable tests. Olivia Levenan who is based at ours whilst at Uni did her first CIC* and managed a fantastic double clear. Thank you to Tigga Gough and Yazi for housing us on the Friday night so we didn't have to drive so far.
Belton Horse Trials was a mixed bag Doug had to go HC as there was no Open Novice, but just had a pole SJ and a lovely clear XC; as for Bouncer he did a super test but then I managed to have an unfortunate tumble Cross Country - it happens to us all. He was absolutely flying but we put 2 and a half strides as did lots of other people at the coffin; he was very honest and kept jumping - shame I didn't and saw the ground I must say most people had run outs there. Thanks to point two I was only winded, and bouncer was unfazed although he did try and carry on.
We had Burnham Market CIC*** the week after although we had to spend the week before testing brakes, so went to Keysoe SJ and jumped a DC in the 1.20m then popped round the XC and jumped the corners etc to check we had control and steering. We went up Thursday for Dressage and took Katie Ball for her first 100 which she completed and was very happy. Bouncer had a qualifying dressage - Tanya Kyle helped me warm up, and then we went back on the Saturday for the Show Jumping and XC. The going was very deep as we had lots of rain thankfully not as much as the last few weeks, Bouncer managed a super round with just a pole. Then for the XC - I must admit I was a little nervous after the week before, but we managed a clear round he was very bold over a testing course which now means we qualified for Bramham CCI*** who would have thought my little Irish cob is making his mark on the eventing circuit.
The boys have then had a quiet few weeks which has been prolonged by the Rain except Milton Keynes who did very well to run. We had QE in the 90 and he did a fantastic test in a hail storm. The weather was that bad we were allowed to event in rain jackets in all 3 phases. He had 2 poles SJ but considering the going we were very happy and he stormed around the XC.
Bouncer is now on an intense fitness regime cantering every 4 days he is enjoying his fast work even if he does get a little sweaty.
As for the coming month we have Little Downham where QE is doing the 5 year olds and Boo is doing the Advanced and Doug is jumping in the Intermediate, I have a little horse Jasmine joining the team for a few weeks to see where she is going to go in her career, so will promise to keep you updated soon.
Take care and don't get too wet!

Well 2012 eventing season has started, firstly I'm sorry I haven't written in a very long time I have had a few issues with being very busy at home and having a trip to hospital but we are all back on form and ready for the season.
I would like to welcome a new addition to our horses Eluisa is Emily's new show jumper who we purchased from our friends at Falkental. Emily has already had success with Eluisa coming 3rd in the foxhunter after only having her two weeks.
Our yard is fantastic with the new stables just being finished off there are lots more refurbishments still to be made so lots to watch out for.
I took bouncer to Oasby in Lincolnshire yesterday where he did a reasonable test considering it was his first one of the season and a super double clear I ran him xc really slowly so I could be in control.
Thank you to Tiggas Saddlery for the lovely Numnah they have given us to wear. It was lovely to see everyone after the long winter we all had a much needed catch up.
Katie ball came with us she did her first BE event of the season and did a fantastic double clear so we have to keep it up now.
This week we have a busy week coming up with dressage lessons with Inga Bryant here on Tuesday then Thursday Alex Hua Tian Olympic event rider coming to do a clinic, then off to Lincoln sat and sun for novice and intermediates.
The horse's plans for the start of the season are as follows:
Bouncer's early plan is to go to Burnham CIC*** then aim for Branham U25s this spring.
Douglas is planning on consolidating at intermediate.
Quite Easy is going to aim at 5 year old classes and BYEH, possibly aiming to go to novice later in the year if he is ready.
Take a look at my diary of events to see where we are going and you are welcome to come support us it's always a fun day out.
Take care everyone and I will keep you all updated on our excitements.

Well welcome 2012 one of the most exciting years for sportsmen our Olympic
year I can’t believe it has come round so quickly.
I hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas. In December the boys have had
a quiet time I managed to pop up to Kyle’s, but my god, Mark killed me doing
canter poles I have practised since then and now I’m back on form.
I have been rather busy; we managed to do some social things like Olympia
where we had a lovely box to celebrate in style. I then went to Germany to
see our friends at Falkentall and my business partner is in the process of
buying a fantastic SJ horse so all very exciting.
We also moved in to the new barn which is very smart we are very lucky to
have such amazing facilities and that Chesfield will be a whole new place
once the developments are done. Pictures to follow promise.
Well now its January I have to be very disciplined and get these ponies
ready for their season I have some training with Inga Bryant this week
and Martin Greet is coming to sharpen me up too!!

Well although this is meant to be a quite time of year im very busy not sure how Christmas is going to fit in at the moment.
All the boys are really well we have been to keysoe to hire the school for a change of scenery. Bouncer was jumping a course in a snaffle the first time in 3 years and Doug jumped a super clear 1.25 track, Gregor was putting the jumps up for me and I didn't realise how big they were getting as he is quite tall, Doug didn't seem to mind.
Thursday I went to Bev Dixon's for a Terry Boon lesson Thank you Charlotte Cooper for organising much fun was had. It's nice to go to other schools with scary things to jeep bouncer awake!! Bouncer had a kick-start back in to dressage mode he was a little shocked he thought he was just a jumping pony. Terry worked on us moving forwards and bouncer went very nicely, terry hoped on for a bit as it's the first time he has met Bouncer he was very complementary which is always nice.
We have had the clippers running constantly everyone is very tidy and smart. Although I still have one to do tomorrow.
So after the horses all being pampered I let myself have a treat I went to the Wood land Pytchly Hunt Ball near Market Harbrough on Saturday so I made the most of it we went to our friends house early for 1 o'clock to make sure we had enough time to get ready. I had gel nails done and they are great look very girly. I spent 3 hours getting ready it was very nice. Once at the ball we all had a very nice evening catching up with lots of friends who we normally only see in the season.
Sunday Chesfield had a dressage show and our new client Sara Franceys had a fantastic day coming 3rd in her first Dressage with her new horse many congratulations, I am very excited for Agatha's career, as she is a lovely horse.
We are out jumping this week and lessons next week. Good luck to everyone.

Monday 21st November 2011....

Well I have had a fun few weeks even though Eventing is over; the boys are back in work and enjoying themselves.
Tuesday we popped to Germany for the day. A day’s training for myself whilst Emily my business partner has been horse shopping. Klaus Ropke and Henrik Griese gave us a fantastic day organising everything to make sure we could get the most out of the day. I don’t think we could have found the quality we saw in Germany in the uk even if we tried well not that amount of horses we would maybe find one or two but we would have had to travel up and down the country spending days in doing so.
Chesfield has had a few shows and lots of clients have had a go and did really well especially in the dressage take a look at What’s on at Chesfield its really nice for those who want a quite place to start there dressage carriers or for those who want a fun day out sj.
This week I went to look at a horse but he was not what I was looking for a 6 hour round trip for nothing so as I said before Germany is the way to go.
Wednesday I had a Julian Trevor Roper clinic at the yard he taught from 12 till 10 at night. My boys were great and feeling on top form, everyone enjoyed themselves and lots of homework was dished out.
Thursday we had another visit from our dentist Dene Andrews and our vets Chiltern Equine to sedate the naughty and frightened ones so everyone can have a nice experience, we also clipped 4 thank god Gregor is here to stay for a couple of weeks, Doug had some sedation so we could do his teeth safely then I put it to good use and finished clipping his head. Now I have two smart horses one to go.
Saturday we were invited to the Liddles for a day’s hunting with the cottesmore. They held the meet at their house, so we woke up early got the yard done then Emily, Gregor and I packed our hipflasks and riding things to get to Leicestershire for 9.30. I rode a lovely 5 year old called Basil and had fun pointing him at various hedges!!!
It was a lovely day until we decided to come home at second horses although we thought we had gone the opposite way to the hounds except they must have done a loop back on us and then we were in front of the hounds which is not allowed so we had to quickly jump home talk about an adrenaline rush but we managed to miss them thank god.
Sunday was a quiet day I took Gregor to pick his car up in Warwickshire so we had a four hour round trip with a pub lunch in the middle of all that...

Firstly I have to apologise I’m so late in fact 2 weeks opps time disappears sometimes. Well that’s it season over until I get out hunting hehe!
Now Oasby was a bit mixed Doug had a good last run before Aldon popped round the Open Novice.
Bouncer had a lovely clear SJ with a new combination nose band and bit in, except he was rather naughty XC, deciding to plummet me into the ground. He took off XC, not impressed! We were then stopped at fence 4 because there was a faller two fences on from me. I got the green light and off we went I tried to stay slow but after the hedge he took off again, I was on a galloping stretch where I thought right lets drop the contact, I won’t pull you and you shouldn’t pull me… so that didn’t work either I now have a big hill we went up and that managed to get him back we then came to a table three strides to and angled brush bouncer took off landed took one stride and took off again naughty boy I then decided to throw myself left and lucky I got out the way as he fell to the floor, my air jacket saved my neck and back but my poor hip was quite bruised, up I got ran off after bouncer who thought he better carry on with the job!! Anyway quick check over and he is sound as a pound, a shame to end the s eason like that. We think it happened as he was very unsettled after SJ as the warm up was carnage, so as I look back I see many reasons for his behaviour. He is now on holiday for a month.
Aldon week wow thank god I had Zoe she was a super star. Wednesday we were all ready to leave at 11 Emily had tea and toast for us as we had a 4 hour journey to Aldon in Somerset.
I had already ridden for 15 mins just to take the edge off him so when I got there I could just give him a nice hack to settle him in.
Thursday was trot up day: 6.30am zoe fed and I made bacon butties, Doug then had his first ride at 7.30 he was such a good boy, so calm I bought him back after 20mns then I spent the next 2 hours plaiting in 30 something plaits it was very tedious… but well worth it. Trot up was at 12.30 and Doug passed with no issues. I then went for a quick course walk it was all very nice and friendly nothing to tricky. Then for the next three rides 10mins with 40 min gaps it keeps him calm and I can work on different movements without upsetting him. Thursday night was our welcome party so we all tottered over for drinks at 8.
Friday was dressage day, I had a long wait as my time was at 2.52 and we had to get the timing perfect so there I was riding at 7.30 again but this time we had a well-deserved fry up at the rugby club, I had to waste time so filling me with food seemed like a good option. I then started the marathon of rides. At 2.00 I went to get dressed whilst Zoe put the finishing touches on Doug I got on at 2.45 and he went and did a good test we had mixed emotions but all in all very pleased.
Saturday is XC day it’s all very relaxed at Aldon, I got up to walk the course at 9 am whilst zoo took Doug for some grass. I got on at 2.20 well in time for my 2.42 xc time. You have to make sure they are warmed up well because, not only do you have further to go than a one day, you also have not had the dressage and the sj to warm up the muscles and get yours and the horses adrenaline up.
Doug steamed round the XC to come in 19 second within the time, I got to the 6 miuet marker at 5.20 and really slowed up so I wasn’t going to get time for going too fast. Doug has such a big stride he eats up the ground at a three day.
That night after you have left them to have a good rest, we trot them up to check on how they are looking, as you have another vets inspection in the morning to see if there all ok after the endurance day, Doug was fine and fit as a fiddle so I clayed his legs and bandaged them just to be safe and put him to bed.
Sunday morning was a late start 11.30 trot up normally it’s at 9 am if you’re lucky, so we all were very happy riders and Grooms! Doug came out fine and abig thanks for Lauren Shannon trotting him up for me as I had a dead leg from Doug hitting me in the week I was 5/10 lame all week not good, quite funny though me trying to run!!
Sunday we show jumped at 3pm it was unfortunate Doug had 3 down and I had 1 he just was absolutely wild he was so excited I had a very difficult ride, but I’m very happy as we are now qualified CCI**.. So we quickly packed our things and headed home after an eventful week, it was a nice end to the season we had lots of fun with friends and all finished safe and sound.
The last two weeks have been spent tiding up the yard and putting the last few touches on the new barn, which we are due to move in to in the near future, you must look at the photos which will be coming up soon enough.
Thank you to everyone who helped me this season I appreciate everything.

Exciting times, we have just completed our first CIC*** at Ballindenisk in Ireland. Now a proper international event horse, Bouncer did an excellent dressage test. The cross country was huge with many terrifying drops and tricky, bold combinations, proving a challenge for even the most experienced of horse/rider combinations. The Irish style banks were definitely something to talk about with lots of differing techniques mentioned on how to jump them and not bank them. Very confusing for a newbie in Ireland!! However, being born and raised in Ireland Bouncer had a thing or two to teach me about these strange obstacles. Bouncer decided to be strong and a necessary circle in a combination ruined my clear round. But at least I stayed on this time!!! The course proved a thrill, and was a tremendous start to our globetrotting career. Showjumping proved unlucky for us, but he jumped well, and most importantly we completed our first event away from the home comforts of the UK.
Other exciting news was that Doug continued to add to his list of double clears at Moreton Morrell. The points just keep coming! His dressage is so good now with movements becoming natural. He will now be aiming for a CCI* at the end of the season. He can’t wait.
My boys just keep getting better, and are giving me a great end to season 2011. Congratulations to Emily Tollafield, on not just completing her first 3 day at Milton Keynes but coming 2nd on both her horses was just fabulous. Very well done.

I’m currently at boot camp for a few days shaping bouncer up ready for the weekend although I have a confession! I fell off so I have to bake a cake as that’s the rules at Mark and Tanya’s so its brought me back down to earth hopefully this has not ruined anything for the weekend!!!
Burghley week was super, the three people I went to support Lauren, Mark and Andrew all jumped fantastic Double Clears only 12 I think out of the whole lot and only 2 within the time.
It was lovely to be involved this year and watch although it was far too scary to do any shopping on xc day and so I’m glad I got all my shopping done on the Thursday.
We got back to find the yard shinning so thank you to those we had to leave at home. I went to Keysoe with Doug on Sat and he did another lovely DC and 33 Dressage so I think we have cracked it. I have entered him in for 3 more Novices and then he will contest another CCI* at Aldon at the end of the season.
Bouncer is now about to go on a ferry tomorrow to Ireland to do the CIC*** at Ballendenisk so finger’s crossed it will be successful. Matthew Wright is kindly taking me over and I’m going to stay with some Irish friends, it’s sad I didn’t get into Blenheim last week but I think Ireland will be more fun.
Good luck to Emily Tollafield at MK 3 Day - wish I could be there, and good luck
to everyone else.

Its Burghley week my favourite week of the year. Emily’s horse Cadoc Z is running with Andrew James so we are off to support and stay for the week very exciting!!!
It has been very busy at Chesfield, congratulations PWPC who I think are still over the moon from there gosling cup win amazing achievement.
Doug has been back eventing after a quiet month working on his jumping, getting a stronger canter. Thursday we went to Shelford Manor in Nottinghamshire where he performed a 34 dressage which we were happy with, an unlucky pole which was due to pure excitement. Before we managed to run XC we had an hour wait - Doug was very good and slept but when we went in to the start box he was shaking - it was lovely how happy he was, although I had to run slowly as he was too strong so picked up 13 time.
Saturday Julian Trevor Roper came to mine to give me a hand. We went right back to basics and looked at every part of Doug and pulled him and myself apart which was fantastic. We put my jumping stirrups down 4 holes it was a strange sensation, it took me a while to find my balance again… I then got on bouncer and we did the same we came to the conclusion that they both need time as they are big horses so it will all come together eventually so lots of hard work will be key to this.
After 4 and a half hours working on the horses I now have a lot to think about and producing my horses is going to take a lot of time but I’m prepared to wait.
Solihull on Sunday was a successful day with Doug doing a super relaxed test and a double clear put us in the lead right to the last to go so we ended up in 2nd place which is fab we are now qualified for a regional final next year so something to look forward to.
The week was spent getting ready for Milton Keynes and Highclere, although on Wednesday I went for a lovely drinks party in London so we got to dress up in our cocktail dresses and leave the jods at home - a nice break.
Saturday Doug had another good day being placing 8th in the Novice another good dressage and clear jumping just a few time penalties dropping out of the higher placing’s.
QE did his last event of the season he had a fab dress of 30 and clear XC he is such a bold horse if he was older I would be aiming him for a novice after just a few 100 runs, his show jumping was not the best do to people skipping in front of me which was very annoying I was quite angry but apart from that a lovely weekend the ground was great. Bouncer came for the ride and practise for Monday. When we arrived home he was all ready and we found out Highclere was cancelled which was a real shame.
I’m 16th on the waitlist for Blenheim so fingers crossed.
Good luck have fun at Burghley if your going! xx

Wow where has the time gone these weeks keep passing there is not much left to the season.
Last week was a slow week as I was ill but Emily kept all the horses going, it was Mot for the horses on Wednesday so my contribution was to hold the horses for the dentist Dene Andrews then for Larry the back man. All my horses’ teeth are in great form. He does such a good job he did a few others on the yard and they will be better soon. It is so important to have a good dentist as you can’t expect your horses to go well if their teeth are not in working order it is quite often the answer.
Bouncer and Doug eventually enjoyed there massage they are both quite nervous of new people and takes hen a while to settle but as soon as bounce found out he was not a vet he calmed down…
We went to Weston lawns with Quite Easy and Peach they both jumped double clear in both classes so that was great news.
I went eventing on the Sunday this time with a client to help her warm up etc. Katie had a fab day 32.5 dressage 1 unlucky pole and a fab clear xc inside the time to put them in 8th place which was a fantastic result it was around the BE90.
QE went to his second ODE on Wednesday at west wilts it took us 3.30 hours to get there he travels so well. This was Qe’s beast performance to date his dress was a 30.5 putting him in the top ten after dress in a strong field of 42, a fantastic sj round perfect rhythm and stride but still he had a unlucky pole second to last it was a long course. Then amazing clear xc this horse has bags of potential so exciting. Bouncer came for the ride round ready for Friday.
Friday was Aston le walls bouncer just did a dressage test as the ground was not good enough for him to go xc but he should do a good test at highclear adv which is his next outing at the end of the month.
The next week we are out at Shelford and Solihull then off to Milton Keynes and Highclear so not too busy.

Monday 1st August 2011....

|
|
Well not a good start too the week I have a cold and not good in this heat but should be back with it soon enough!!!
We have been out and about the last two weeks - Bounce went to Aston le Walls and jumped clear round his second advanced so that was super.
We have been jumping Doug almost every day to work on his contact issues when landing from the jump Doug doesn’t like me to be in control and gets very angry so a few weeks of being a show jumper over August!
QE went to Carlton not getting the best marks due to judges opinion’s but I was happy with his performance. Lots of people were complementing him, shame the judges didn’t think so poor baby.
I have a new horse in to sell on behalf of a client the daughter is off to uni so unfortunately Peach is for sale. She went show jumping at Weston Lawns on Sunday and came 2nd with a lovely double clear in her first class and an unlucky pole in the second class - jumped fantastic. She is aiming for Aston le Walls unaffiliated in August.
This week we have the back man and dentist so lots on with some showjuming and possibly a lesson in there… catch up soon good luck to those competing

Firstly Congratulations to my clients Katie Ball and Lucas completing their first BE 90 at great witchingham, Tiff Eggleston 1st on Four winds Romeo Burghley PC ODE and Emily Tollafield at Bury farm ODE 90 2nd on Doris double clear and 3rd on Finn DC (Went xc with one stirrup clear lost it at fence 5 and had 17 left she will tell you her views next week!!)
Last week it was QE’s BE debuting… what a super star 6th in the 4 year old class totally unfazed by everything. On Wednesday we went to Keysoe to hire the SJ on grass and then went round half the intro till the water I then thought well you’re going so well let’s try the pre novice track and he flew round, thank god I did I had not been to Tweseldown since bounce went as a 5 year old, the intro was the old pre novice, I said my baby 4 year old can’t do this, but he cantered round without any fuss.
This week I have had some viewings been SJ, eventing and luckily some help from a friend to ride some of the beasties.
Wednesday we went back to Keysoe to practise SJ in our new bit Doug seemed to like it had an unlucky pole in the 1.15 but jumped nicely I had the first on bounce in the 1.20 but he did come in to the ring bouncing like a 4 year old he just loves to play but when you come to the fence bouncing with not a lot of canter you have it down opps!!!
Thursday tiff took the Romeo and Rocket xc schooling at Aylesford as she is eventing them while she is on holiday they were super for her this carried on to Sunday and a big congratulations to her “winning” her section with a “22 Double clear” in the 90 at Burghley they are at Stafford BE90 next week good luck.
Doug went to Brightling CIC** although it was so muddy so we didn’t run xc (really wanted to) as he didn’t show jump great due to him being sharp and not listening the joys of youngsters but he did a qualifying dressage and kept his cool.
Bounce is in the 8/9 yos Advanced class on sat so will let you know how that goes and QE is at Carlton BYEH qualifier.
Good luck to everyone

Wow two weeks have gone fast it has been quite. Really been nice to spend two weeks at home,
Firstly well done Emily Tollafield 2nd at area dressage on a 72% just missing out on qualification for champs… and team was joint 3rd out of 31 teams well done PWPC super job good luck over the next few weeks they are busy trying to qualify for champs sure they will!!
Bounce went to Salperton last Saturday to do the AI so we did an advanced dressage test and jumping and intermediate cross country, thank you to Kirsten and Zoe who helped me for the day.
Dressage went ok he is always a bit tense after a break so I was happy. Show Jumping was terrible! He just tapped them the whole way round - we were not impressed so I had to sort that out this week. I was almost worried to go xc as it is very out of character. I went xc ready to retire if he didn’t feel himself as it was a hot day but he jumped round fine it was a very demanding track causing lots of problems so I was pleased his next outing is Aston le Walls advanced so we are quite excited.
Tuesday we took Murphy to his new home where he is very settled and has a lovely family good luck and have fun Millie.
Doug has had a week and a half in the field he came back in to work on Wednesday and felt great I took both my boys to Andrew James last week for two days training I just wanted some eyes on the ground we found a new bit that works great for Doug. Both my boys just wanted a bigger canter for those bigger jumps and I worked on getting them both in that deeper spot so nothing was a disaster thank god.
I’m busy the next few weeks’ XC schooling, show jumping QE has his first event at tweseldown off eventing so lots of early starts. Good luck to the rest of you.

Monday 20th June 2011....

Well I am exhausted sorry about the lateness I forgot what week it was bad excuses. Firstly I want to send my regards to Di we are all devastated to hear the sad news and hope you feel better soon.
Burgie was lots of fun but the week before that I had a nice week schooling a few of the horses and getting Doug ready for his first three day.
Last Friday I took 3 xc schooling at wearsley rocket was super and jumped everything in sight the big ditch steps and log in to water I was so happy and Quite easy jumped everything first time only had a lead to begin with jumped skinny’s and step in to and out of water we were impressed he is now entered up for his first event at tweesledown hopefully qualify for the 4 year old championships…
Monday I took Doug to Queenholme had a jump lesson with mark ready for Burgie I then took dad home to go south on Tuesday to get back to Queenholme for 6 pm Tuesday ride pack all before 10 pm.
Wednesday am we arrived after a 9 and a half hour drive through the night we took the horses straight off the truck and let them graze for half an hour while we got the boxes ready in this time we managed to lose 3 and Doug decided to look at the xc course all fun and games (we caught them all fine and quickly). Wednesday was just settling in had a hack and a lesson before four then put everyone to bed.
Thursday day trot up day interesting to say the least I rode 4 times in total maybe 5 for 15 mins a time it keeps Doug calm and I can work on a different part of the test each time and not get him too angry. Thursday evening was lovely we went to the house for a drinks party and yes the wine was good.
Friday was dressage day I was up on the yard for 7 very reasonable got my first ride in at 8.30 then finished my last ride at 10.30 an hour and ten mins before I had to get on for the final 8 mins that’s how much warm up I was allowed very nerve racking at a three day so I managed to pull out a good test 53.8 so that put me in joint 9th after dressage, Friday was reels night although I have to admit after walking the xc we all retired to the marquee for supper and a glass of wine then bed.
Sat went like a blur got up rode for ten mins so I only had to get on 20 mins before XC this helps him feel like it’s just a normal one day. We then all went course walking at 9.00 and we went xc at 12.45 and he flew round took everything in his stride we had a fair few questions although I had to circle as I missed a turn under a bridge and we would have fallen over otherwise. Laura and Sam were in the D box to catch me when we finished and wash us off thank you. Doug came back with 4.8 time putting us in to 8th place.
Everyone had a great xc day in our team so we went to the sat night party in high spirits we all had lots of fun thank you to the owners for giving us a good night, theme strictly come dancing our ground jury were the judges Les smith and Fiona Malcolm made a great team
Sunday was our final day and we all had an early start 6 am on the yard to wash of legs and tidy everyone up for trot up all our horses were as fit as anything and Amy’s horse won the grooms prize well done.
Doug’s show jumping was not great to say the least but there is a first and last time for everything we had 5 down he wasn’t tired and I would love to blame myself it was just purely bad luck!! He finished and was 15th really happy with how he coped with the atmosphere and being so far away from home.
We had a great team finish Tanya won the class on her very smart horse domino and 7th on the lovely Venus both 6 year olds well done. So we celebrated with champagne packed and made our journey back down south….
We arrived Monday morning at 3 am and put all the horses to bed then tucked ourselves up. I returned home Monday lunch time and Doug is having a holiday there for the week.
Thank you to everyone who helped me over the last week very grateful.
Take care to you all more adventures next time.

Well I have had a quite week at home plenty to do with it being half term. Last week we were at Houghton hall a lovely house in Norfolk I took QE for his first show he was so well behaved it was in the main arena there were banners stands lots of people he was very mature plus he travelled so well and just stood while I tacked him and put studs in please can they all be like him.
He did the Burghley young event horse class to finish 7th clear sj and a sweet test I was thrilled he made it in to the final top ten.
For those of you that don’t know when you do a BYEH class it consist of a dressage test in a 60x20 scored out of 35, then straight in to a course of show jumps which is scored out of 40, next a trot up there they are looking at conformation that’s scored out of 15 and finally the top ten get called back in then it is like a showing class every one trots round then canters then you do a gallop this is marked out of 10 and that’s how they decided the winner top 3 qualify so we might have a bit more luck next time. Some of the others were a bit more prepared.
Bounce came for the ride to we played in the dressage warm up very good boy. Friday we were up at 2.30 to get to Houghton so bounce could do his test he did a nice test for him but the judges slated him so it was a very annoying day so we decided he didn’t need to jump and came back home, although on the way we picked up Jim who has come for a month’s schooling so that is lovely.
This last week has been spent tiding and getting the yard sorted for various pony club activities at the week end we had a tetrathalon and hunter trial so on Thursday I took QE round the course he was amazing jumping everything first time ditches you name it he does it love him to pieces.
Jim’s owner came yesterday to watch him and she was very happy with his progress so are we he is a very quick learner so we might try take him jumping over the next two weeks.
I might be going to burgie Scotland with Doug to do the CCI* next week so if I go will let you all know our adventure I will be going with mark and Tanya Kyle so we will have 9 horses so it’s going to be a long fun week!!! Take care.

Well firstly thank you Equine Affairs, Baileys and Gareth Hughes for picking his brains and everyone’s hospitality, for an amazing day last Tuesday we had a fantastic time and what a lovely day was had by all.
Wow the last two weeks have been crazy I am exhausted… Monday and Tuesday were spent on the yard training before Wednesday when I took Doug to jump at Wearsley Park Stud before Aston Le Walls the next day he was super I just had to test my brakes as Hambledon was not so great.
Bounce had a dressage lesson at Great Grandson the same day ready for Chatsworth. They were both super - Mark and I spent a while trying to work out the maths of where I was meant to be going but we got there in the end.
Aston Le Walls was lovely they had really made a super effort on the ground and Doug had a good dressage of 38 and a double clear with 3.6 time to finish 12th in his second intermediate so we were very happy.
Friday was spent getting everything ready to go to Chatsworth early in the morning and then off to Equine Affairs with Emily Tollafield to collect our goodies.
Chatsworth started well with a 63 dressage which I was thrilled about our first CIC*** and he kept his cool so well done bounce, although they were running early for SJ and I panicked so didn’t give him a very good warm up so I picked up 12 faults a shame but we just rubbed a few but it was still qualifying until the xc and he was flying round a little too strong and I managed to gain control again but bounce decided to put a huge jump in at a corner and I decided to take a flying lesson he jumped me straight off and kept on running round the course I was fine tested my air jacket for the first time yes it works!! Bounce thought well at least I can carry on, so we rerouted to Brigstock CIC** where Doug was running and are hoping for a late entry next weekend at Houghton CIC***.
Tuesday - Gareth Hughes Baileys and Equine Affairs Day Out
Wow thank you what a fab day we got there at 11 and had a marvellous day I got to be nosy and take a look round the yard Aspen Grove what a lovely place. Gareth was fantastic and got a lot out of bounce and I, although I think he doesn’t like us eventers too much… thinks we settle for second best, a running joke throughout the day!! Emily Tollafield did a fantastic job on her mum’s very special mare; she was beautiful. It was lovely to catch up with all the other Equine Affairs riders and meet their Pupils, once again thanks.
Thursday I had dressage at Brigstock so I rode Bounce in the morning to prepare him then a quick bath and Emily plaits, I then left at 12 to be there in plenty of time Bounce did a super test for him looked a bit at a man putting a tent up but kept control of himself he got a 64.4 to put us half way in the section.
Friday was Doug’s turn we left at 8 so nice and leisurely and Doug coped so well for his first big test in the main arena I just got a qualifying mark which was a shame as he has been working do well but I forgot the rules and you have to wear spurs in two star test and above this has never been an issue for Bounce and I completely forgot Doug just hates them so back to the drawing board.
Saturday saw us jumping the show jumping caused lots of problems Doug jumped a fantastic round just having one unlucky ole and bounce was not himself rubbing two fences but made up for a super xc round clear with just 2.4 time to put us in 22nd place which was fab considering it was just a fun run. Doug I pulled up xc due to it being such a big course and he struggled going in to the water which is out of character for him so I jumped six more fences through the main arena where we had a difficult combination and then called it a day as I had 3 more big drops after that and he is only 7 so I don’t want to ruin his confidence so I finished on a good note.
A quite two weeks ahead at the moment I am hoping to get in to Houghton CIC*** but if not I am there anyway with Quite Easy’s Debut in the Burghley Young Event Horse 4YO class. Have fun everyone.

Well I have had a quite two weeks and I have made the most of it Bounce and Doug have just been schooling at home.. And catching up in the office…
Badminton was amazing we went on the Monday and to be in the grandstand watching the final 20 the tension was unreal with one pole between the top ten it was nail biting stuff.
Last week I went for a dressage lesson this time with Doug mark thought Doug was a nice horse I just need to not be afraid to ask for that bigger trot, as he doesn’t even start to track up till I really push him. So this week I have been riding him much more forward. Bouncer now thinks every time we canter I am going to do a flying change but no bounce we are not!! So the last few days I have been over doing the counter canter. I gave Bounce a jump last week he has not jumped for two weeks and wow he was on fire.
As for Hambledon yesterday we had a much better dressage, but it was not to be and we had to retire in the SJ. Doug was not liking the ground they had done a fantastic job with watering, but with the sudden rain it turned in to a bog and Doug being a sensitive horse didn’t like the sudden change, Doug does not need to lose his confidence and there is always another day. So figures crossed for Aston.
I have a busy week this week Aston le walls with Doug then the CIC*** at Chatsworth with bounce so lots of prep this week. The week after we have our lesson with Gareth Hughes so Emily Tollafield and I are getting excited about that. Take care.

I have had the most amazing week to date. Both my boys excelled themselves to the best of their ability (with plenty more to come) and really showed me how lucky I am to have two such clever horses.
Burnham Market what a weekend many thanks to Tanya and Mark Kyle who supported me all week keeping me calm and concentrated - it all paid off. Douglas first Intermediate could not have gone better as he produced a foot perfect double clear with an impressive dressage (for moving up a level). Bouncer proved why he is such a fantastic horse he always knows when he has to perform and my god he did, a very impressive double clear round in the Advanced to Take 8th place.
Queenholme well it was a great week's preparation Mark and Tanya Kyle know me so well and are great for that last minute fine tuning. It was lovely to leave the yard in Emily's capable hands, so I could have no worries (well not too many worries) and relax mucking out and not having to think except for when riding.
I timed my stay well as Roy Cole was there, who does all the horses backs he is a miracle worker. I knew bounce was not quite right as he does get a bit stiff at times, I was right Roy described him as having a flat tyre behind and soon sorted it out with some acupressure, it doesn't penetrate the skin it just sends electrodes though the muscle tissue to relieve tension the horses body then does the rest. It is truly amazing to watch.
Tuesday and Wednesday Tanya helped me on the flat and we perfected those changes Bounce just gets so excited and thinks that's all we do now when I ask for a canter transition.
Thursday brought a jumping session with Mark and oh how I have slipped with my sitting up straight over the fence I tend to fold to much as being so light weight I can get away with it but not if I want to keep these Double clears going!!! I must have done the course 20 times till it was perfect mark is a stickler for perfection and it defiantly worked. Bounce only popped the course a few times his rhythm is much more consistent than Doug's and we know each other so well where Doug still thinks he knows best.
This week I have been catching up on the others after having the week away from the yard whilst bounce and Doug have had a week off sunbathing and having a well dissevered rest. Doug is entered for Hambledon intermediate 7-8th May and Aston le Walls 12th May, Bouncer is entered for the Advanced at Chatsworth 15th May, all lovely days out for the family.
Hope you all had a good Easter I had a fab day watching the XC. Off to Badders tomorrow so off to bed for an early start. Take care, good luck to those out and about.

This last two weeks have been super I am just going to keep it quick as I am back at Queenholme for the week for some training with Mark and Tanya Kyle, before the weekend where both boys are stepping up a level at Burnham Market - Doug to Intermediate and Bouncer too Advanced.
Well Baileys have chosen there winner; congratulations to Emily Tollafield who won from my lot. We are both very grateful for the fantastic opportunity from Baileys and Equine Affairs. I would just like to thank them for this competition as it is so beneficial to both horse and rider, we are both looking forward to the day with Gareth Hughes.
I have been travelling again last weekend was Belton what a super weekend with Doug doing a better test and jumping double clear over a well built and up too height course. Bouncer excelled himself to score a 38 and double clear to put us in 5th place so I was very happy.
Last week I had my last Mark Ruddock lesson till after Burnham and he was super – we really perfected his half pass and making sure we have it looking consistent and the same on both reins.
Weston Park I had Doug on the Saturday and he did a nice test to jump another double clear he now has 10 points so we are very happy and feels very ready to move up a level. Bouncer went back to Tanya's as did I for a sleep over and we went back to Weston in the morning. Bounce jumped double clear and did a very sweet test.
So good luck to everyone and I will let you know how we get on at Burnham all exciting and scary stuff, good luck over the two weeks.

I woke up very bemused to find all the clocks were an hour behind, except my phone I was sure it was 6am not 5am I was so confused that I rang BT 123 to find out the real time, so I should know the clocks go forward but when you don't watch telly or have time to read a paper, so you can imagine how I felt this morning.
So last Monday we were back at oasby to do the 90 with murphy his fist event and Katie ball who did a fantastic job completing her first 90 on her young horse lucus. Both horses had a super day, good dressage and unfortunately rolled too poles just tapped them he did a fabulous clear xc so that's all that matters at this stage in the game.
Tuesday brought a lie in and to ride the big boys after their event at the weekend. Bouncer had a dressage lesson with Mark Ruddock, which again was super we really worked on getting him to stretch and realise from behind. Mark helped me with a new warm u routine at events so I put it to practise at Lincoln.
Friday was a busy day getting ready for the busy weekend, plaiting and bathing took place as well as getting all the horses jumped and having the KEITS assessor for the girls NVQs. Sat I was up at 2.30am what a glorious time we left at 4 am as it took 3 hours to get to Lincoln horse trials and I had 8.30 dressage. Doug did the novice he jumped a super double clear over a strong technical course gaining another point I could not have been more proud, bounce came for the ride and we practised in the dressage warm up with a few of the others who were competing on the Sunday.
Sunday I didn't need to leave till 8 am so Emily and I only had to muck out before we left. Bounce did the intermediate again very strong xc course. being many of the top riders pre badminton runs for the start of the season. Bounce did a much better test than the week before apart from changing on both reins in the canter where we lost marks. his show jumping round felt amazing but rolled a pole at an upright but that's sj for you.. XC he gave me a super round only to have a silly at fence 4b a skinny corner where many were having problems. A quick circle and a smack for me and we popped over the corner easily.
This week has been a quite week for bounce. Doug went to great witchingham Norfolk on Friday for the novice and jumped another super double clear.
Good luck over the next two weeks. We are off to Belton International and Weston park keep you posted

Well the season has started and I have a whole 7 months left of 4 am starts I do wonder sometimes why we do this to ourselves. Last week I was frantically trying to fit everything in and get sorted for the season.
I took Romeo, Murphy and a Client XC schooling to Milton Keynes last week, they were all fantastic I forgot what jumps were in what course and ended up jumping some of the BE novice course by accident but they all took it in their strides. Bouncer and Doug had a Dressage lesson and a jump.
I went to Aston-le-walls unaffiliated Intro class (BE90) to start off the season for Romeo He did a lovely Dressage gaining a 31 which put us in a very creditable 7th place out of 43 we then went on to do a Double Clear unfortunately we gained 5.2 time faults as the ground was quite sticky and I dint want to push him for his first event we were placed 10th which was fantastic. Congratulations to Katie ball who came a very respectable 13th in the pre intro with a double clear.
Friday brought Bouncer and Doug's first event of the season we went to Oasby in Lincolnshire. They both had interesting dressage tests but that is normal for the start of the season but they both redeemed themselves to jump double clear in the open 100 and open novice, I was a little shocked at the novice as the XC was a little ore technical then usual but bounce did not bat a eyelid. Bouncer was particularly excited to go XC he tried to canter off when we had 45 secs left then he was just shaking with anticipation it was nice as it shows he loves his job.
Tomorrow I am back to Oasby for the Intro with the babies so off to bed now so I can get up at 4.
I am eventing for the next four weekends so busy…Have a good couple of week's good luck to those competing.

Well eventing starts this week on Sunday for me so very excited now after the long winter. The last two weeks have been busy with preparation. Last Tuesday bounce had a dressage lesson before his first outing to Keysoe for a Novice and Elementary; he managed to contain himself and only added an extra movement in the Elementary! Thursday I gave all mine a jump and they thoroughly enjoyed it. They are all jumping really nicely, I was just doing grid work to work on straightness.
On Saturday we were meant to go hunting but after getting to the yard early to get all the horses mucked out we decided that the weather was too wet and just went to the meet for the social and saw our friends instead.
Wednesday I had a fantastic lesson with Mark Ruddock at Great Gransden courtesy of Victoria & Hayley. Bouncer really worked well with Mark - he had such a way with both myself and bouncer and really understood how difficult it is to get the balance right with him, as bouncer has a tendency to strop like a naughty teenager when doing flat work. Mark gave me some fantastic exercises and told me to be really disciplined and it has really worked.
Thursday I went to Vale View for their BS Show Jumping show with Bouncer and Doug. They both jumped well although Doug unfortunately had four faults and yes it was the first fence in the 1.05 - yes rider error first and last!
But jumped really well in the 1.10. Bouncer did the 1.15 and 1.20 jumping clear in both he is on top form and I am very excited for the season.
On Friday we saw Quite Easy arrive a lovely 4 Year old from our clients in Germany www.falkental.de . QE has settled in remarkably well and although is for sale I have very high expectations from him this year I will be aiming him for the Burghley young event classes and four year old Champs.
I still need to buy too much stuff for the season!! Good luck these next two weeks.

Well what a busy time it is not only is the season now only three weekends away, I have already entered four events its madness.
Last week we had a keysoe bonanza it’s so close and have lots to
choose from so it seems silly to go anywhere but there.

On the Tuesday I had a dressage lesson on Doug he was quite argumentative it requires a lot
of patience, but we managed it in the end. Unfortunately it carried on to
Wednesday when we went for dressage to keysoe not such a good day, but it
was our first test of the season outside so he contained himself well.
Bouncer had a lesson on Wednesday afternoon so we had to get back quick
he was fabulous, bounce has grown over the winter and it has really helped
him out it enables him to have a more free step rather than shuffling
along in the trot.
Saturday we went for the eventer trial firstly congratulations Emily
(my business partner) 1st place with rocket my dun horse, 35 dressage double clear. Rocket he did a super test despite the gale force winds, he was winning from start to finish great day as it was ems first competition after coming back to riding. Romeo just did the jumping class, 95cms I should have done the bigger class but I wanted to let both horses see the cross-country jumps, they took them on in their stride so I’m very happy. Both Romeo and Rocket are entered up for their first BE 90s.
Sunday we went to Mark and Tanya’s to look at a horse for Emily and discuss my event plan so we are on track and going in the right direction so that’s good.
This week I have been concentrating at home schooling, bounce has been working on his half pass and is really much calmer this year, I think his long holiday did wonders I really think it helps them mature. Bounce jumped on Tuesday and all I can say is wow and its lovely to jump him again he almost jumped me out the saddle I forgot what his scope was like. We have been getting bounce ready for his first outing next week, so that’s going to be interesting let’s see what the judges think of him this year.
Take care have a good two weeks and good luck.

Well the last two weeks have not been very productive with the riding… Monday we had a very poorly pony with colic and Em and I had to stay up all night with him then he decided he wanted to be checked on all day Tuesday and half the night. Thankfully cracker is back to his lively self.
Wednesday we were meant to go to Keysoe but that seemed not like a good idea having not ridden since Sunday so we had to withdraw, I had a lesson on bouncer and he went really well, back to working hard I admit I did have a neck strap on still, as bounce can be quite lively at the start of the season. Especially when he thinks jumping in the arena to make his life more fun and mine more difficult seems exciting… Friday through to Sunday I did paper work what fun but up to date now so that’s all good.
Last week I had a few lessons and Doug was very lively, we have started to teach him half pass so in doing so we have started to ask just for the quarters to come in on the long side, Travers.
On Saturday I gave everything a jump and they all enjoyed it Romeo in particular jumped very well he has seemed to have found even more jump. On Saturday night we all went for a fun night at the Quorn Hunt Ball so we had a fantastic night although I only had 2 hours sleep as had to get back to the yard for Sunday - bad luck on my part…
This week I have lessons flat and jumping and then a trip to Keysoe for dressage and the eventer trial. So good luck to everyone competing !

Well I have had a fabulous two weeks what with escaping on a last minute holiday to Egypt with some eventing friends. So I now feel very refreshed and warm again….
So last week I got on bouncer for the first time in three months and much to my surprise I had a very well behaved horse, I have then just played around in the school for 10 to 15 mins. Wednesday I had a dressage lesson with Doug and we have perfected our shoulder in I just move my hands and ask with my leg and we are flying down the long side, so fingers crossed for some good marks this season.
So let’s admit I have been very busy sunbathing and catching up on my reading, whilst I left the yard in my business partner’s capable hands. Emily rode all mine for the week and Martin Greet came to ride Doug a couple of times so he decided that it was quite nice to see mummy and have a treat and practise our jumping when I got back.
Saturday was back to normal I got home at 1 am then got to the yard for 7am as we had lots to do in preparation for today’s jumping. All the horses looked really fab when I go back. I can’t believe how big Doug is he has grown so much we are having a review with Emma for our tried and tested this week and I am sure he has developed more because of Emma’s help and advice.
I took Murphy to do some show jumping at vale view in Leicestershire where he jumped very nicely. Doug did the Baileys JAS series which is where you get marks on jumping and style of horse and rider we did the BE 100 and Novice. Doug takes a while to settle back in to the show jumping so we had some poles in the first and second classes but went clear in the cross country style phase. We are due to go to Keysoe dressage on wed and to do more JAS at Solihull in the next few weeks. Good luck everyone take care…

Christmas is all over now and a happy new year!! We had a quiet two weeks; it’s cold and thank god the snow has gone…. well for how long that is the question.
Emily and I did not ride very much in the Christmas week we turned our horses out in the field with lots of hay, as we were working Christmas and Boxing Day so we wanted easy days so we could open our presents. I still had a stocking and a few surprises - a new lap top to keep my accounts all up to date and I am having some long leather chaps made so next winter I will be very warm!!
We had a yard Christmas party on the Wednesday night; winners of the chase me Charlie were Rachael on jay jumping 1.25 - I was very scared watching!!! We had a drink afterwards which was lovely to spend time and catch up with everyone. Wow I had my first bank holiday it was lovely still horsey but I only had to ride. Bouncer is lunging now and I will get on him this week fingers crossed. Doug is quite fresh at the moment and is ready to start some jumping again now so I will give him a jump this week. Wednesday we were back to normal and the snow disappeared so we quickly got to tiding up the yard it was a mess but thankfully it’s looking better now. Friday I popped to Falkentall in Germany for the day to try some horses, a 5 year old 16.2 Hanoverian called Wilson he was very smart what power, and a 16 hand 3 year old grey Holsteiner cross Selle Francais he had a fantastic attitude towards life and a lovely jump so we will see how they come on!
I welcomed the New Year in at lunch time as after being up at 4 am to get to Germany I was knackered. Saturday brought paper work - I planned our eventing season now so look out for dates we are out and about.
Have a good couple of weeks and next time I would have been out to dressage and back on bounce!!!

Wow what a busy two weeks as always, this weather can really get you down one minuet it’s -10 and an ice rink the next we have a blizzard and a foot of snow.
Last week I just had a few dressage lessons and played in the school. The girls started to tidy up Bouncer and he is now walking for 1 hour twice a day, he will now have another week walking then two weeks lunging.
Then I will brave to sit back up on him. We bring the Eventers back in really slowly to ensure their tendons are sufficiently hardened off and their muscle tone over their backs develops evenly as they have completely lost all fitness on holiday.
The weekend saw our pony club and Christmas games with many of our younger liveries joining in, it was the first time the pony club had used the school since the new surface and we had lots of compliments. The over 12s had to do their races bare back it is fantastic to see pony clubs doing this again as it develops a better seat and more secure balance. A couple jumped 1.20 bear back well done!!!
Wednesday brought a dressage bonanza we went to Keysoe in the morning to come 2nd and 3rd gaining a higher percentage than the other week, I changed his noseband to a drop and this seems to help and has made him much lighter in his head carriage. In the evening I took Hannah one of my working pupils for their Christmas present we went to see the dressage to music it was so inspiring just a different world (we brought season tickets so I have been 4 times). I had a busy day Friday waking up early to get to Leicestershire to get an order of rugs and new work bridles so Christmas arrived early for my ponies. I then travelled to London with Emily to see the puissance in London where Ben Maher had a fantastic win. Saturday we were busy in the morning I de-iced the yard and in the evening I was a human snow shuffle so I could use the walker - the joys of winter!!
Sunday I got up early to do the yard as I was snowed in. I managed to still make it back to Olympia and had some drinks with friends stayed in a hotel due to the weather conditions and not wanting to take 5 hours to get home, we watched some fantastic jumping classes as well as doing some Christmas shopping. I’m now ready to start jumping some big classes at the end of Jan, so till then I hope everyone has a fabulous Christmas and Santa brings you all what you want - take care…

How inconvenient is the snow? We have had the horses on half day turnout but thank goodness for the indoor school and the new horse walker, it is such a useful facility!
On Monday, I had a lovely girly day with a good friend Alex. Our mission – the perfect dress for a ball, it took all day but we finally found one so that was a huge relief, just when I was beginning to get worried! They opened the shop just for us, it was rather funny.
Wednesday and Thursday, we had Dean Andrews, equine dentist down to Chesfield. He had a total of 21 horses to do! It is very fascinating; Dean shows you all the different things about horses’ mouth conformation and how it affects what bits we should ride in. Also, how different ailments can cause other problems with their mouth and teeth. Dean has a real ‘way’ with the horses! Bouncer used to be really difficult to work with but Dean has built up a good rapport with him. Bouncer was pulled in from his field holiday and as soon as he knew what Dean was doing he just let him get on with his job. Bouncer has a fantastic mouth now and you can really tell in his ridden work how much more comfortable he is in his mouth by being more consistent through his contact. On Friday, we built a course of jumps and had a fantastic morning with my girls doing some really good rounds. Fran and Sparkle now have control whilst Hannah has rebuilt her confidence in jumping and is flying. She had the same rhythm
the whole way round! We had plans to jump on Sunday but the frozen ground meant we had to cancel as it was too dangerous.
Monday, I had a flatwork lesson in preparation for Wednesdays British Dressage debut at Keysoe. I must admit it wasn’t the most pretty Doug has ever worked as he seemed to have other things on his mind and just could not concentrate. However by the end of the session, Martin and I had tapped into his head and we got the most amazing canter work and shoulder in. It was a bit hit and miss weather wise as to whether we would be able to get the lorry out but we managed it. I normally plait up the night before but instead I woke up at 5am to leave at 8am! Feels so early when we are not eventing. It was well worth it, Douglas coming home with two 2nds and one of my working pupils Hannah, also got two 2nds. So to start BD on that note was quite exciting. I also had some more photos taken for Baileys and Doug is just thriving, super job Emma!
I gave Doug quite a few days off with the snow and Bouncer is now spending some of his day on the walker, I will attempt to get on him in a few more weeks. Friday was a busy day; I met up with Equine Affairs, then clipped two horses and had my haircut finishing with supper out. Saturday evening was the Woodland Pytchly Hunt Ball. It was a very glamorous evening with everyone in the dresses. I recovered on Sunday, staying in Leicestershire with friends and made my slow journey home this frosty Monday morning. I am back out on the 15th and will let you know how we get on. Take care and drive safely, it’s so dangerous out there at the moment and if you do venture out, good luck.

Monday 22nd November 2010....

|
So much has happened in the last two weeks where do I start. Well I have now got Doug up and running again and have entered our first British Dressage at Keysoe on the 1st December, so that will be exciting and nice to get a bit more dressage under our belts.
I must congratulate my girls - Fran won her 95cms show jumping last Sunday and Hannah came first and second with 72% and 70% in her first British dressage, so qualified for Winter Regional’s. Hannah has one up on me on that front!
So I went to try and go hunting on the Sunday at Mark and Tanya Kyle’s, as I got down the drive with my friend, she got a phone call from her mum and I had a phone call from Tanya, to say it just got cancelled! Iinstead we had a jump lesson and I went cross country schooling with Romeo -he was fantastic; so straight forward.
Monday brought a real day off so I had a sleep and a catch up with reality. On Tuesday I had John Adams come over to give me a jump on Doug; it was the first time we had left the ground since Oasby, he was amazing. John was very complementary and helped a lot with our flying changes and helping me make Doug think about where his legs are going. Not just as high as they can, so that was useful.
Then Wednesday I went show jumping with the Dun 4 year old and Romeo, it was the Duns first time out. He just had a pole in the 85cm clear round with all the BSJA jumps and fillers, so we were very pleased he took it all in his stride. Romeo did the 95cms and the 100cms again found that very easy.
This week we have also been busy at home with them starting the surface on Wednesday. We chose the Martin Collins Active Track and it looks fab - cant wait to ride on it; they should be done on Wednesday. We had 12 haulage trucks come up the yard it was crazy, plus two cement mixers with the concrete for the walker. The walker will finally be all finished next week - as always its all go at Chesfield. Yesterday we had a yard visit from Baileys Horse Feeds; they spoke to each individual owner and suggested how they could improve their diets and it was a success. All the liveries were really happy and Baileys were very helpful. Doug is still thriving on his new feed. I think he is having a growth spurt; every time I get back on he is bigger and bigger he was meant to be my small horse! Bouncer is a black beast at the moment - he is coming in a fortnight to come back in to work!!
Good luck if you are competing and have a good fortnight!!!

So last time I was waiting for my skip to arrive and it has. Its almost full - well with the old school lights. So now we have daylight in the indoor school which makes an amazing difference and we have freshened our tea room up which is now clean and tidy - all I want is a nice oak kitchen table to sit round please!!
So last week we took the horses to the opening meet at Brent Pelham - that was exciting. I took the Grey 7 year old and the Dun 4 year old. What well behaved horses; no one could believe the Dun was only 4 and they were very complementary.
So Wednesday brought more hunting and that was good fun with Dawn taking out Murphy the 5 year old and him also being a super boy so I have 3 lovely hunters in. I am getting a little attached to Romeo he is just so much fun. We then had all our photos for Baileys taken and Doug looks so well its fantastic.
We had a dressage competition at Chesfield where I sent one of my pupils in on Murphy. I think Hannah was more nervous than him as he took to it like a duck to water so that was nice. He had to do the novice as there was no room for him in the Prelims - poor Murphy.
So next week brings more fun - I am off out with the Readyfield. I got a little far a head of my self and thought Sunday the 14th was yesterday but unfortunately not so next Sunday im going to get my adrenaline fix. And our horse walker is being done all exciting. So take care and will bring more stories in two weeks.
You can view the 3 wonderful horses I currently have for Sale below and Equine Affairs have started work on my new website which
is very exciting - www.kceventing.com

Busy, busy, busy travelling around the countryside last week of eventing season so Wednesday brought another dressage lesson. Martin rode Doug, I opted out, as when I left you last I had fell down the stairs well, it hasn’t gotten better as fast as one would like, so Martin carried on; thankfully having the same issues I have. He then started to push him more in the lateral work and it was either going to go one way or another, except it really helps unlock him in his neck and concentrates him. I took the new Irish to Keysoe to hire the school. I jumped Romeo round the course he took it all in his stride, he really is a little machine so I will take him out BSJA and hunting next week.
Saturday I travelled back up to Queenholme land in Leicestershire to get ready for Oasby so I booked a Tanya Kyle lesson she gave me a flat and a jump and Doug jumped his socks off. Tanya got excited and kept putting it up. Doug and I don’t mind but we have to remember we were only doing the Novice at Oasby. So we stayed the night, as we took bouncer home for the rest of his holiday, its nice to have the muddy monster back! Doug went flying round the Novice and went double clear - fantastic end to the season I could have not asked for anymore this year. We arrived home and Emilly and the girls had kept the yard in tip top shape so that was lovely to come home to.
The last week has been spent playing with the Irish, Murphy might have found a home). This week I took my hand to horse ball, as the kids have a session once a fortnight with a pro on sat afternoon. It is ever so good for your balance and the trust between horse and rider, a young boy rode Murphy and a girl at our yard borrowed my 4 year old dun, which both were fantastic and took to it just like old pros, they are so level headed.
I spent the rest of the week tidying more so Doug is taking a two-week break just to chill out; I ordered a skip what 21 year old gets excited by a skip… well I do!
The tea room is ready for a revamp now as looking a little dated, so I will get that done when the school’s out of action next week, as the lights and sky light are being redone… all exciting.
So those of you that are out and about good luck and I will keep you all updated take care…

Take over week.
So last time I left you I was waiting for the Irish horses to arrive! They got in at a wonderful hour of 12.30 pm Sunday! So I left them to settle in on Monday.
Instead, I got Doug ready for the lovely Emma from Bailey’s Horse Feeds. We are lucky enough to be doing a tried and tested for them. Doug is a hard one to feed as he would get quite hot on anything other than grass, in fact thin air! So he has been on very limited hard feed, Emma has been very helpful and has developed a great diet plan for the next three months. This consists of Baileys Performance Balancer and Alfa A blend. Will let you know how we get on, so far so good which is promising. Watch this space!
Tuesday was the day I braved sitting on all the Irish and making sure I still liked them and yes I do! They are all saints and look forward to see how they develop. I then had a dressage lesson booked with Martin Greet, a local dressage rider and trainer. He proved to be very helpful and really worked on Doug’s heads carriage; he gave us a real boost of confidence. It helps he seems to like my horse or at least he says he does! I had another lesson this week, which set me up well for Little Downham.
D day - Friday 1st October . . . yard take over; mine and my business partners new venture. Thank god this week has gone well, I have managed to keep all the clients happy, to my knowledge anyway, and kept the yard tidy with my trustee team, who have been fantastic. My business partner managed to help by having her baby on the Saturday, so at least she was there on Friday to make tea and toast! Emily had a lovely baby girl and I now am a godmother so that’s all a lot of responsibility (first pony 2012).
Little Downham, Doug did a very good dressage, 39 considering our conditions of mud, mud and more mud, thank god I didn’t have Bouncer there would have been very dirty. He jumped well, just a pole show jumping. I seem to have ‘poleitus’ at the moment if there is such a thing! He then put in a fantastic clear inside the time cross country to finish 8th! Role on Oasby!
We then spent the last week tiding up the new ones, managed to get them all clipped with no fuss at all, now they are ready to go out and play!
Anyway as I write this I am in a little discomfort with backache, not from the horses but from the stairs in my house! I fell right from the top to the bottom, what a numpty. Let’s hope I can have a better day tomorrow. Any way will keep you all informed on the new horses and yard antics!!!
Have a fun two weeks . . .

Flying High.....
Well where do I start, I’m kirsty I’m 21 and have just taken over as managing partner at Chesfield Manor Stables. What a busy week!! Although I’m currently not working, and meant to be having a few quite weeks, it certainly doesnt feel like it. I have been in an aeroplane twice in one week. To Ireland horse shopping and Germany for a competition yard opening.
To start the week off I travelled up north to Allerton to do the Novice with my young horse Dougall DG aka Doug. He performed well with a 38 dressage which was respectable; a pole show-jumping - it was such a controlled rhythmical round Tanya Kyle my ex boss of two weeks commented on what a lovely round it was and I should be pleased, we haven’t seen many of those this season, he started a little keen shall we say! Then a fantastic cross country course built by Ian Stark certainly one of the stronger Novices this season. Doug went clear with time which just dropped him out of the placings, this run has set us up well for Little Downham.
So Wednesday brought drama what with a member from our stables taking a tumble out hacking and us having to rescue her - to me driving up to Queenholme ready for our 4am start to get to Ireland - my friend Olivia Holloway, soon to be my head girl, managed to forget her passport! Her brother had to meet her half way bearing in mind she lives near Preston (nice brother) lets hope she doesnt forget my horses passports when we go travelling. So Ireland was a success what with viewing over 30 horses and riding about 18 between us I brought three and Livi came home with two. I also brought one for my business partner (hope she trusts me). We also went to Johnny and Gillian Kyle’s to see the famous Saliorman and “Step In Times” mummy so that was also very exciting we went round the whole stud and viewed all the horses from foals to 7 year olds.
After getting back late Thursday I stayed at Queenholme as Friday I rode Bouncer’s relation a lovely 4 year old. Then I went to see the hairy man who now looks bay due to all the mud on him, Bouncer is there on holiday after his long season. I then got back, saw Doug, and flew out to Germany where on Saturday all day there was an opening (and of course a party) of this new establishment called Falkental. All I can say is I was speechless! You name it, they have it! A glass indoor school with international size arenas - well we all can only dream about having these facilities! I will try and get some photos up, so with 500 people being there I have made some good friends this weekend and contacts.
So as I have been thoroughly busy this week I will leave you, have fun and hope you all have a good two weeks. I am now going to wait at the yard for this Irish lot to arrive tonight will let you know how they all get on.

I’ve just taken over as a managing partner at Chesfield Manor Stables, Graveley in Hertfordshire.
I started riding at 4 at a local riding establishment,
my first pony I rode and produced to area level pony club. After that
I moved on to horses that’s when I knew all I wanted to do was event. So
after finishing my A levels I took a gap year, which turned into another!
I have spent three years as a working pupil building up my experience.
The last year has been spent at Mark and Tanya Kyle’s in Leicestershire,
where I have been producing my two event horses. Previously I spent time at
Andrew James Eventing and Dressage, Hunt, Event yard in Surrey gaining
valuable experience in all aspects of equitation.
This year I completed my first CCI** at Blair Athol where I came 14th with
a double clear and to top it off won the prize for moving up the most
places after dressage. I have now qualified CIC*** and I’m aiming for
Blenheim 8/9 Year olds next year.
My other young horse started his career this year and is now qualified CCI*.
My exciting new venture has just started and I’m now concentrating on
producing young horses to event and sell. I plan to start teaching and
developing horses and riders to that next level.
